75% 65% Greed, 35% Treehugger
So today I was wondering the halls at the office and I noticed that the company I work for, which is very large and will remain nameless has moved to using officemax office depot “green” paper that is made from 35% recycled paper. People might boo hoo this because it’s not 100%, but we use a lot of paper and this is a very nice thing to see from a large corporation. Our company has made some great inroads and committed in many different ways to help the environment. I might go so far to say we’re leaders in corporate environmental responsibility.
So, a very good change. what do you guys think? To little?

First of all, nice addition. 75% + 35% = hope you don’t have a job that involves numbers. Second, your picture is of Office Depot paper, not OfficeMax = hope you don’t have a job that involves reading.
Now, as far as the recycled content goes….all that crap about ‘less greenhouse gases’ is a bunch of bull. Paper travels on an average of 5 different vehicles just to GET to a place where it may actually be sorted into recycleable bundled of waste paper and the whole process of breaking down, bleaching, and cleaning used paper is as intrusive if not more intrusive than making virgin paper.
I do agree with the ‘less trees’ comment. No doubt about that.
Your company going with the green says that they are willing to spend a little extra money to do what many people think is right. That’s commendable even if the facts are a bit fuzzy.
Peace.
It sounds as if they are at least trying to be a bit aware, although after reading Papermaker’s comment, perhaps it doesn’t help as much as those who market recycled paper say it does.
In my office I’m trying to get people to print on both sides. I find I’m using much less paper that way. Even better, I try not to print at all when I can avoid it. It’s more of a challenge, but I’m getting used to it, and it keeps my desk much neater. There are definitely times when I need a hard copy, but I try to keep them to a minimum.
I also bring my own discarded paper home to recycle it, since I don’t believe that what is in our “recycle” bins actually gets recycled!
Hey – sorry about my sarcasm earlier. I was being mean…..shouldn’t have been.
No problem, I probably deserved it. I was typing on my phone and sometimes my brain and fingers aren’t moving at the same speed. I’ll make the appropriate changes to the post. Does it scare you to know that i DO in fact work with numbers?
and reading for that matter….
