Starbucks “Rugged” Travel Mug Review by Green Gear

Travel Mugs are probably the most widely used green products around.  Yet, they’re not typically seen as “green.”  Instead they are purchased for their product characteristics.  Any producer of eco-friendly products should ruminate on that idea for a little while.

About 3 years ago, my wife purchased a Starbucks travel mug that up until that point I had only made fun of because of its rugged design. Its a fusion of industrial steel, big 3 dashboard plastic, and carabiner.  I hated it… then i used it.

This thing has survived the test!  3 years and still it goes strong despite numerous injuries, one sustained at 55mph off the top of my Jeep Wrangler.  It holds coffee and keeps it warm ALL DAY, and i Mean an Ohio Cold Day… inside my car.

If you take it to Starbucks, you get a discount on their coffee so in addition to not using disposable cups, it saves you money each time you use it.  I’ve saved many times the $13 I’m sure it cost three years ago.

These are no longer sold at Starbucks, but I’ve seen them unbranded at places like TJ Maxx and Target.

Totally random but I have one of these as well and was searching for what the heck it was called to recommend it to someone. Found your site, but also found a place to buy this thing (mine is pretty old) and found the manufacturer: http://www.gocontigo.com/

So if anyone wants to get one of their own there you go.

I saw these at Target and was at once impressed by its design. Did a little research online, and discovered a lot of people were indicating that the models sold at Targel/BedBath and Beyond and even Contigo are look-a-likes and do not preform functionally as well.

I am searching on ebay now for a Starbucks branded model.

Worth the extra price.

I received one of these as a gift from my mother and law about 3 or 4 years ago…I never looked back…I use it everyday *and I mean, EVERYday* and it still does the trick…only one problem…the carabiner piece broke off last week so I was trying to find out if there’s a manufacturer that still sells it as Starbucks no longer does…so thanks Dave!!…BEST ever travel mug….outlasts all others…
