Green Burial Review?

by mrgreengear on 19 February, 2009

Okay, I admit it.

I’m Interested. I try not to be a morbid person, but I would lie if the idea of death doesn’t creep up in my brain. So I’m was surfing CNN the other day and saw an article about a woman wanting to be turned into a reef block. Other people just want to be put in a biodegradable box and left to the worms.

This might gross some people out, even the most enthusiastic greenies, but I find it a pretty neat option. Call me a traditionalist (traditionalist!). But the ashes to ashes appeal of this excites me. I mean, what use is my body to anyone after I’m dead and gone? I’ll be up in Heaven whopping it up with Mrs. Green Gear and the dogs! Hmmm…. I wonder if there is a need for Green Gear past the pearly gates?

Anyway… I want to review this product / service! Looking at our criteria it seem to be a shoe-in for at least 4 gears. Made of recycled material, doesn’t pollute the earth over time (lots of non-natural materials go into the soil when you bury someone), it’s GOTTA be cheaper, and it doesn’t lack in the innovation department.

So c’mon! Any green burial people want to give me a tour? Preferably one where I don’t have to die first. Send emails to ask@greengear.info.

For you other folks, what’s your take on these burials? I’m interested in your thoughts.

I think this is a great idea…seriously, what do you need your body preserved for years after you died? Besides, I’ve always sort of wondered what would happen when the number of dead bodies exceeded burial space, I mean, it could happen, right? This solves the problem – every third generation could be buried right where great grandma was since she’ll be all gone by then! :) Love the idea, I hope someone takes you up on your offer to tour one of these.

I hope someone does too. Some people might think its weird but c’mon… no weirder than putting me in a steel box.
